Cyst at the root of a tooth in the jawbone, oral cyst surgery by an oral and maxillofacial surgeon in Seoul

Quick answers

  • Cost: from ₩300,000 (≈ $215), depending on the type, size and complexity of the lesion.
  • Who treats you: a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon, the specialty for cysts and lesions of the mouth and jaw.

A small bump on the inside of your lip that keeps coming back. A swelling on the gum above a tooth. A lump under the tongue. Or a dentist told you there is a shadow in the jawbone on your X-ray. Most of these are harmless, but a lump that does not go away should be checked.

At ARC Dental, lumps, cysts and lesions in the mouth are assessed by an oral and maxillofacial surgeon. We find out what the lesion is, explain whether it needs treatment, and when it does, remove it with the least disruption to your teeth and daily life.

02 · WHAT WE TREAT

Oral Cysts and Lesions We Treat

  • Mucocele (lip cyst): a soft, fluid-filled bump, often on the inside of the lower lip
  • Gum lumps and swellings
  • Cysts at the root of a tooth, often after long-standing inflammation, treated with periapical surgery
  • Cysts around impacted teeth, such as buried wisdom teeth
  • Jawbone cysts found on X-ray
  • Other lumps or lesions in the mouth that need to be removed or tested
Why not leave it? Many cysts grow slowly without pain, but over time they can damage nearby teeth and bone. Rarely, a tumor can develop within a cyst. That is why a lump that does not go away should be examined.

03 · DIAGNOSIS

How the Diagnosis Is Made

  1. Examination. We look at and feel the lump, and ask how long it has been there and whether it changes.
  2. Panoramic X-ray. Shows the teeth, roots and jawbone.
  3. CT scan, only when needed. For lesions in the bone, to see their exact size and position.
  4. Biopsy, only when needed. A small piece of tissue is taken under local anesthesia and sent to a lab for analysis.

04 · TREATMENT

How Oral Cysts Are Treated

Treatment depends on what the lesion is, where it is and how large it is. Most minor oral surgery, such as removing a mucocele or a small gum lesion, is done under local anesthesia in the clinic.

If a cyst is linked to a tooth, we also deal with the cause, for example the root of an infected tooth or an impacted wisdom tooth, so that it is less likely to come back. If the lesion needs hospital-level treatment, we will tell you and explain why.

05 · TRAVEL

  • Biopsy results take time to come back from the lab. Tell us your departure date so we can plan the timing and how you will receive the results.
  • Stitches: if your stitches would normally be removed after you leave, tell us your flight date and we will plan for it.
  • Insurance documents: on request, we email an English treatment certificate and itemized receipt within 7 business days.
