Quick answers
- Cost: about ₩200,000 to ₩600,000 (≈ $140–$430) per tooth, depending on the position and difficulty of the tooth. Panoramic X-ray ₩100,000; CT ₩150,000 only if needed.
- Who removes it: a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon, including impacted teeth close to the nerve.
- Planned with imaging: a panoramic X-ray first, and a CT scan if the tooth looks close to the nerve.
- Travel: book early in your stay so there is time for a check-up before you fly.
Your wisdom tooth has been aching on and off for months, and now you are in Seoul for a while. Or a dentist at home told you it is close to the nerve and should be removed by a specialist. Either way, you want to know three things: is it safe, how long will recovery take, and can you still fly as planned?
At ARC Dental, every wisdom tooth is assessed by an oral and maxillofacial surgeon. We look at the CT scan ourselves and plan the extraction around the tooth’s position, its roots and the nerve, then plan the timing around your trip.

02 · WHEN TO REMOVE
When Should a Wisdom Tooth Come Out?
Not every wisdom tooth needs to be removed. We usually recommend removal when it is causing, or likely to cause, one of these problems:
- The gum around it keeps getting swollen or infected.
- It is hard to clean, so it or the tooth in front keeps getting cavities.
- It is pushing on or damaging the root of the tooth next to it.
- A cyst is forming around a tooth buried in the bone.
- You are about to start orthodontic treatment and need the space.
If your wisdom tooth is healthy and causing no problems, we will tell you that too.
03 · COMPLEX CASES
Impacted Wisdom Teeth Close to the Nerve
Lower wisdom teeth often sit close to the nerve that gives feeling to the lip and chin. This is why some patients are told to go to a hospital, or to see an oral surgeon.
A tooth near the nerve does not automatically mean a long hospital process. What matters most is who reads the CT scan and plans the surgery. An oral and maxillofacial surgeon checks how the roots relate to the nerve, how deep the tooth is and what angle it lies at, and chooses the safest way to remove it.
| Type | What it means |
|---|---|
| Erupted | The tooth has come through the gum. Usually a simple extraction. |
| Partly impacted | Partly covered by gum or bone. Often the source of repeated swelling. |
| Fully impacted | Buried in the bone, often lying sideways. Needs surgical planning with CT. |
04 · THE DAY
What Happens on the Day
- Examination and X-ray. A panoramic X-ray shows the tooth and roots. If the roots look close to the nerve or the tooth is deeply buried, we add a CT scan.
- Explanation. We tell you how difficult the extraction is, the cost and what recovery will look like.
- Local anesthesia. We take care to keep the numbing as comfortable as possible.
- Removal. You feel pressure but should not feel sharp pain. Many patients say the injection was the hardest part.
- Aftercare. You receive gauze, any prescriptions and written aftercare instructions in English.
05 · RECOVERY & TRAVEL
Recovery and Flying Home After Wisdom Tooth Removal
Swelling and soreness are usually at their worst in the first two to three days and then settle. How long it takes depends on how difficult the extraction was.
- Plan the extraction early in your stay, not the day before your flight, so we can check healing before you leave.
- Removing several teeth? We will discuss whether to remove them together or separately, based on the scan and your schedule.
- Stitches: if your stitches would normally be removed after you leave, tell us your flight date and we will plan for it.
- First few days: no smoking, no alcohol, no drinking through a straw and no hard rinsing, to protect the blood clot.
- On the plane: keep your medication and aftercare sheet in your hand luggage.
If you have strong pain, increasing swelling or a fever after extraction, message us right away. For life-threatening symptoms, call 119 or go to the nearest emergency room.

Wisdom Teeth Removal in Seoul: Frequently Asked Questions
How much does it cost to remove a wisdom tooth in Korea?
At ARC Dental in Seoul, wisdom tooth removal costs about ₩200,000 to ₩600,000 (about $140 to $430) per tooth, depending on the position and difficulty of the tooth. Imaging is charged separately: a panoramic X-ray is ₩100,000 (about $70), and a CT scan (₩150,000, about $110) is added only if needed. The final cost is confirmed after an examination.
Can you remove a wisdom tooth that is close to the nerve?
Yes. Our oral and maxillofacial surgeon assesses impacted and nerve-adjacent wisdom teeth with a CT scan and plans the safest way to remove them. A tooth near the nerve does not automatically need to be referred elsewhere.
Can I fly after wisdom tooth removal?
Many patients fly a few days after extraction. We recommend having the extraction early in your trip so we can check healing before you leave. Your surgeon will advise you based on how your extraction went.
Does wisdom tooth removal hurt?
The extraction is done under local anesthesia, so you should feel pressure but not sharp pain. Some soreness and swelling for a few days afterward is normal, and we prescribe medication to keep you comfortable.
Can I have all four wisdom teeth removed at once?
It depends on the position of the teeth, how difficult each extraction is and your schedule. We decide together after looking at the CT scan.
Is the consultation in English?
Yes. Consultations are in English, supported by real-time translation when needed.
